To some extent, emptiness is an important part both in Mahayana’s ideas and Daoist ideas. In reality, emptiness is regarded as a critical strategy which is used to stop some dogmatic hypotheses and barriers. Some people may be confused about the emptiness, they even think emptiness can lead to the negative influences to people’s mind. Some people think it is hard for them to reach the level of emptiness. They may deny that the emptiness can lead to the integrity of the experience and the world. However, we can find the positive aspects of emptiness after reading a lot of relative readings. As far as I am concerned, the realization of the emptiness can lead to the integrity of the experience. In order to prove my thesis statement, the essay gets involved in the ideas of Chan Buddhism and Daoist philosophical.

In the Dao de jing, there are a lot of good ideas in Dao de jing which have influenced the Asian culture. Emptiness are interpenetrated in the following main points in the Dao de jing.

The nature of the Dao is an important thing in Dao de jing. In the world, there is the certain order to the cosmos which can not be described by the words. The Dao is thought as the order in the world. The Dao has controlled the world from the beginning to the ending of people’s experiences. It gets involved in many aspects in people’s life. People cannot change the Dao anyway. The most important of the feature of the Dao is that it can not be changed by human beings. In reality, people’s behaviors and movements should obey the order of the Dao. That is to say, people should obey the nature of the Dao. If people do not do this, they will meet a lot of problems. In our society, many people ignore this factor. For example, many people broke the balance of the environment to get the profits. However, they would get the punishment of the nature eventually. The Dao de jing reminds people to pay attention to the Dao in the world (Dao de jing, 10).

At the same time, people should change the perspective towards the world and objectives. There is the changing perspective in the Dao de jing. Some people may think they are ignorant when they communicate with other people. In reality, people who think it is hard for them to reach the level of emptiness are limited by the perspectives. They often have the sense of ignorance. In order to solve the problem of ignorance, people should change their perspective about the world. Most of people have the strong beliefs and faiths in their life, however, their beliefs and faiths may prevent them from obtaining the intelligence (Dao de jing, 10). The knowledge which is expressed in the book or in any visual forms can prohibit the pursuing of the truth. People who want to reach the level of the emptiness should change their perspectives right away.

Valuing relativity is also an important idea in the Dao de jing. People often value the things in their own criteria. There is a common sense about accessing the things. In reality, the Dao has not divided the things in to the bad things or the good things. When people think some things are terrible, that is not to say they are bad in nature (Dao de jing, 11). However, it is possible that people do not value relativity. Emptiness request that people should value relativity instead of their own judgments. When they can manage to do this, they can be close to the level of the emptiness. They should not make the decision by their own mind. So people should value relativity if they want to see the world in reality.

In addition, free and spontaneity are very important in the level of the emptiness. There are some judgments in people’s life. However, the Dao is far from these judgments. It is free and spontaneity. This can be easily seen in the environment and among the animals. For example, the rule of the trees and flowers is steady. The growing of the flowers is natural and spontaneity. In that case, the rule can be thought as the Dao. People should use the perspective of the Dao. In the level of the emptiness, people should do the things in the free environment. In that case, emptiness can lead people to do things from their heart. In order to get the perspective of the Dao, people should learn to act with spontaneity instead of their own purposes. In Daoist ideas, emptiness is the high level of free and spontaneity. Only when people give up their selfish minds and personal intention, can they find the essence of the perspective of the Dao (Dao de jing, 12).

Meanwhile, the Dao de jing advocates people to avoid the distortion of mind and language. To some extent, the people’s language is the reflection of their own mind. In most cases, people’s mind will be governed by what they have seen and experienced in their life. They will express their mind in the language because language is the direct tool to express their mind. This will lead people to have the misunderstanding of the truth. In that case, they will be far away from the level of the emptiness. In order to obey the Daoist ideas, people should be calm and thoughtful and leave the language aside. People should take many things into consideration the make the right decisions (Dao de jing, 13).

Emptiness requires people to discard the selflessness. The selflessness is the factor which can prevent people from discarding the language. Ordinary people have a lot of desires for the things in the world. In order to get their own interests, people may hard to give up their selflessness. Emptiness is not an easy thing for ordinary people. However, it does not mean that people can not reach the level of the emptiness. To some extent, selflessness is the main barrier of the practice of wu-wei because it requires the releasing of the selflessness. When people discard the selflessness, they may be close to the Dao (Dao de jing, 13).

When people reach the level of the emptiness, they will have the power of the Dao which can benefit them a lot. We should see the power of the Dao. When people learn the essence of wu-wei, they will start to gain the perspective of the Dao (Dao de jing, 13). The power of the Dao will make people immune to the dangers and difficulties in their life. When people meet the various problems, the power of the Dao will let people ignore them. What’s more, when people reach the emptiness. They may find they are not afraid of any danger in the life because of the power of the Dao. If people can do this, they can be though as the sage.

When people reach the level of the emptiness, they can be called as the stage. In Daoist ideas, a sage should make efforts to subdue the society and the world. The stage should be regarded as the king. With the leading of the sage, the world can be back in to primary state. In that world, the atmosphere contains freedom and the nature.

In Mahayana Buddhism, Generally speaking, Buddhism is very popular in Asia, especially in Chinese and the India. With the spread of the Buddhism, more and more people realize the importance of the Buddhism.

Mahayana Buddhism is the legacy of the principles of the Buddha. The Buddha tries to make everyone be equal, this the essence of the Buddhism. In self-cultivation and teaching management systems, Mahayana Buddhism is more sophisticated satisfactory (Paul, 25). The inspirit of the Mahayana Buddhism is to save the ordinary people from the suffering. In China, there were a lot of people who suffered from the pain. The Mahayana Buddhism had saved these people. With the power of the Mahayana Buddhism, people had got some comfort of the heart.

Emptiness is the admirable stage of the mind. When people discard the desire of the earthiness, they will have the great attitude towards the ordinary people. In the Mahayana Buddhism, sudden realization is important in the process of the learning (Paul, 28). People may always take a long time to reach the emptiness, so it is necessary for people to get into the sudden realization. After they have the sudden realization of the world, they may see a lot of knowledge that they do not get before.

In China, there are a lot of temples of Buddhism. The monks live and study in the temple. In most cases, the ordinary people who want to be the monk need to give up a lot of things. After they are received by the Buddhism, they should focus on the study of the essence of the Buddhism. They may be calm and serious (McRae, 128). What’s more, they should also be pious. Among these monks, the sudden realization may symbolize that they are on the way to the emptiness.

As for Zhuangzi, we often combine the Laoist ideas with Zhuangzi. There are some common elements between Laoist ideas and Zhuangzi. However, there are some difference between them.

In Zhuangzi’s ideas, valuing relativity is also mentioned in the book. People often use the one-sided knowledge to judge the things in life. However, Zhuangzi regards the whole things in the world as the entirety abstrusely. People should not use their own criteria to access the things in the world. For example, when people want to give the comments about things, they should think over the things themselves instead of using the criteria in their minds. On the contrary, they should learn to get the more knowledge. When people treat the world as the whole one, they can hold an objective perspective on the things in the world (Zhuangzi, 22).

At the same time, Zhuangzi also advocates the idea of wuwei which is different from the Laozi. Laozi emphasizes that people should obey the rule of the nature in order to achieve their aims. However, Zhuangzi advocates that people should be free in the world. The more freedom they get, the much happier they will be. If there are too many laws and rules in the world, people will lose the sense of the happiness. We can see that Zhuangzi opposes the extra rules in the world. In order to pursuing the real freedom and happiness, people should practice wuwei (Zhuangzi, 31).

In conclusion, the realization of the emptiness can lead to the integrity of the experience. From the Dao de jing, the Mahayana Buddhism and Zhuangzi, we can see that they all regard the things in the world as a whole-one. The rules and natural laws exist in the widely. People should obey the development of the world and the essence of the world.
