The Final Mystery(1)

The video mainly discuss how consciousness come from physical process within the brain. The video can be divided into three parts. Firstly, the video take Graham Young as an example, whose brain was hit by a car when he was a child. Graham has damaged largely restricted to the visual cortex. Even though he lost all his vision to the right in both eye, his brain could actually process visual information on both sides while he wasn’t aware of it. The blind sight case reveal that there is far more to being aware than a single, central control center. Instead of some special areas, devoted to consciousness, somehow the extraordinary feeling of awareness emerges from ordinary brain activities. Secondly, the Speaker use the idea which is the conscious thoughts and feelings that flit through your head are a direct reflection of the ever-changing pattern of the activities in your brain to explain anaesthesia. In the other hand, anaesthetics offer a further clue. At does too low to rob you of consciousness, they can nonetheless dramatically distort it, producing hallucinations, such as the using of ketomene. Then the Speaker use the experience of watching the Jim Rosa Circus performance to expound how to use your mind and your brain to empower yourself. Thirdly, the Speaker use experiment to prove the Professor Benjamin Libet’s theory that is our conscious mind and our free-will is merely an after effect. Then the Speaker discuss do we have any freedom if everything starts in the sub-conscious. Finally, Professor Gazzaniga’s experiment find that the left hemisphere is an interesting, cognitive machine which has all problems solving capacities while the right hemisphere isn’t a very interesting entity. It is true a huge amount of what we do in our awake conscious life is governed by unconscious processes.
