A report about the American Biogas

     I have read a report from the American Biogas Council. It is a program related to biogas with details about introduction, different foreign participants and some policies used to promote biogas. It introduces the current situation of biogas in the United States, including 2200 biogas-producing sites and another 11000 sites available for development.     

     It also presents several programs and policies implemented for the development of biogas. For example, the 2007 Energy Bill “provides incentives for the use of biogas as a transportation fuel”.  Transportation fuel is widely needed in daily life and takes up a large proportion of pollution. If incentives are given to the use of biogas as a transportation fuel, it will hugely promote the penetration of biogas as the program gradually work. Besides, the “Federal Renewable Energy Production Tax Credit(PTC)” give tax credit to electricity produced by qualified energy, including biogas. This will turn biogas a better choice for electric generator. Moreover, “establish an investment tax credit for biogas facilities that does not require onsite electric generation”. This will be a good news for biogas facilities. Attracted by benefits of the investment tax credit, more investors will choose biogas. Therefore, this policy can help biogas to win a brighter future by attracting more attention and investment. Another policy is like this, “Ensure that biogas is fairly treated in any Federal Renewable Energy Standard or Clean Energy Standard”. This one is quite important because it decides that whether the position of biogas has been recognized. Only when it is recognized, can biogas gain more attention from the public and have more chance to be advocated.
